United Runners (a casual and fun local running group) and I are organising a run and a fun run/walk on Tuesday, August 09 2011 evening in conjunction with Singapore's National Day. This is the 2nd year that I'm organising this event. The purpose of this event is to celebrate Singapore's Birthday / Independance Day and at the same time to keep fit and bring runners, their family members and friends closer together within the running community.

The start and end point of the run will be at Overseas Union Bank (OUB) Centre, 1 Raffles Place. The total distance of the run will be about 6 km to 8km for the serious and enthusiastic runners, and the fun run/walk will be about 3km to 4km for the fun runners/walkers.

Unlike last year's National Day Run, this year, the run will take place in the CBD area. There will be a few stops in-between the run for photo-taking sessions.

Meeting point will be at the glass pyramid near the Overseas Union Bank (OUB) Centre lobby. Briefing and warm-up will commence at 5.00pm which is compulsory for all participants to attend. The run itself will start at 5.30pm.

The best way to get to Overseas Union Bank (OUB) Centre, 1 Raffles Place is by MRT and alighting at Raffles Place MRT Station and the OUBC building is just above the station.

During the run, there will be pacers (to lead the running tempo) and sweepers (to assist the stragglers) in the running/walking groups. Remember, this is not a race; no medal or awards will be given for fast runners.

At the end of the run/walk, a cool-down session will be conducted followed by breaking fast session for Muslim participants and mingling session for all participants while watching the fireworks.

For more information about the informal event, please feel free to contact me via email at 1armrunner@gmail.com.

Take note (Disclaimer & Indemnity):

1. Storage will be provided for baggage. Though you may leave your belongings with the event's volunteers, we (the organisers) will not be responsible for any items/valuables missing before, during and/or after the event.

2. Only 1 water point will be provided which will be located at the start/end point of the run which will be at Overseas Union Bank (OUB) Centre. Participants are advised and encouraged to hydrate sufficiently before and after participating in the event and also, to bring their own water-bottles or any other form of refreshment or hydration-fluids for the event.

3. Participants are to be responsible for their own safety and well-being. Parents, guardians and adults whose kids/children are participating in the event, are to be responsible for their safety and well-being too. There will not be any medics, ambulance and security officers for the event.

4. Before attending this event, participants are to consult their doctor to make sure that they are in clean bill of health to participate in the event.

5. In the event of inclement weather, we (the organisers) have the rights to delay, postpone and/or cancel the run/walk.

6. All participants are to abide by the traffic rules and must not cause in inconveniences to other path and road users.

7. Muslims participants are encouraged to bring their own food for breaking fast after the run/walk and after the cooling-down session.

We (the organisers) will not be responsible for any lost or damaged items/valuables, injuries and/or deaths that may occur before, during and after the event. By participating in the event, participants automatically indemnify us (the organisers) from any lost or damaged items/valuables, injuries and/or deaths that may occur before, during and after the event.

Donation can be made via funds transfer through internet banking or paypal (bank paypal details can be found below) or by cash on the event day itself.

To further create a sense of carnival-like event and also to form a unity in the running community, I have designed an event t-shirt to commemorate the day which is shown below.

The event tee is on sale. Each piece is prized at SGD10.00/pc and parts of the proceeds from the sales will go towards charity. Anyone can purchase the tee, even those not participating in the event.

The t-shirt is made of dri-fit material in red and white colour, round neck and short sleeves as shown above, and it also comes in mens/unisex and ladies cutting. The sizes (applies for both mens/unisex and ladies cutting) are as follow:
